As regulation on pedestrian protection tightens on a European and global scale, the need arises for reliable and flexible solutions. IEE has devel-oped Protecto, a deployable bonnet sensor system that supports regulation compliance without compromising design freedom. Despite continuous efforts to reduce the number of pedestrians killed or injured in road accidents, about 8000 pedestrians and cyclists are killed each year in road accidents in the European Union (EU), with 300,000 being injured each year. This has prompted European governments and lawmakers to introduce legislation for the protection of vulnerable road users.
