THE HUMBLE broombush, used to make brush fences in South Australia since the 1930s, now offers farmers there and in Victoria the opportunity to fight land degradation and generate income, according to Primary Industries South Australia (PISA). Natural supplies of broombush, Melaleuca uncinata, in the bush have dwindled to such an extent that a permit is now needed to harvest it, according to PISA researcher Peter Bulman.
