DAVID CROMBIE: Crombie has a family background in the Queensland pastoral industry. He completed a degree in Economics (UQ), then joined Sir William Gunn (GRM) managing agricultural projects across northern Australia, With two partners, he completed amanagement buy-out in the mid-1970s and the company expanded its activities across northern Australia and overseas.GRM managed beef breeding properties for independent investors across the north. From 1988 to 1998, Crombie was managing director of QNTP (formerly King Ranch) for Bankers Trust. GRM was sold to the Consolidated Group in 1994 and Crombie continued as MDuntil 2000. In the mid-1990s, he joined the MIC Board and served as inaugural chairman of the National Steering Committee for Meat Standards Australia. Following the industry transition process in 1997, he joined the board of the new company Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) and was chairman from 1998 to 2005 when he retired. Throughout Crombie's term as chairman, MLA supported and promoted industry change by developing systems that delivered improved efficiencies and created a point of difference forAustralian beef and lamb to protect and grow our markets and to position us to meet future challenges.
