Low potash prices keep pressure on Intrepid

Persistent weak prices and a global oversupply of potash led US producer Intrepid Potash to its fifth consecutive quarterly loss. Intrepid posted a $13.4mn loss during the second quarter, down from last year's $4.9mn loss, despite higher year-overyear MOP sales volumes and higher Trio production. Intrepid's MOP sales volumes grew by 14pc year on year, to 168,000st because of an early start to the spring application season. But that was offset by a 46pc decline in average potash sales prices to $193/st.
