In Jan-Dec 2014 sulphur exports from the United Kingdom amounted to 31,00t, of which 24,000t was shipped to France, 4,000 to Germany and 2,000t to Netherlands. This was down 11% over 2013. Most sulphur produced at UK refneries is delivered into the domestic market, with Runcorn-based INEOS the dominant consumer. Exports take place to manage the balance for example when INEOS has a production or storage issue, and are usually handled by traders. The main sulphur producer refneries in the UK are the two Humberside refneries operated by TOTAL at Lindsay and Philipps 66 at South Killingholme, ExxonMobil at Fawley, Essar’s Stanlow refnery and Valero at Pembroke (Wales) and Petroineos at Grangemouth (Scotland) .
