Acidifiers: synergy of acids make for better efficacy

Organic acids such as propionic and lactic acids have been added to feeds for many decades now for their antimicrobial activity against bacteria and moulds that are present in feeds. On the other hand, various organic acids such as acetic, citric, fumaric, lactic and propionic acids are important in animal nutrition as they are natural products and are normal constituents of metabolism. These acids are believed to promote animal growth by decreasing the gastric pH, improving pepsin activity, decreasing bacterial growth and increasing nutrient digestibility in the gut.
