Capacity of the Oryx GTL Plant to Be Stepped Up Ultimately to 120,000 B/D,Possibly with the Participation of ChevronTexaco

The capacity of the gas-to-liquids (GTL) plant being developed by Oryx GTL Limited could be stepped up from its initial level of 34,000 b/d to 120,000 b/d,possibly with the participation of ChevronTexaco,according to Qatar's Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry,Mr.Abdallah Ibn Hamad al-Attiyah.At a press conference following a meeting with the South African Minister of Trade and Industry,Mr.Alexander Erwin,Mr.al-Attiyah pointed out that Qatar Petroleum (QP),which has a 51% interest in Oryx GTL,and its partner Sasol (49%) had already reached agreement on the planned expansion and that discussions were continuing.Mr.Erwin was in Qatar for the official inauguration on 7 December of the start of work on the Oryx plant,which is scheduled for completion in 2005.
