Contracts Awarded to Hanwha, ABB Contracting and China Harbor for Facilities in the Ras al-Zour Industrial Zone

Three contracts for work connected with the development of the Ras al-Zour industrial zone have just been signed, two bySaudi Arabian Mining Company (Maaden) and the third by Saudi Port Authority. Maaden thus finalized the contract awarded to the South Korean company Hanwha Engineering and Corstruction Corporation for the power station and the seawater desalination plant that will serve its phosphate fertilizer complex. The contract is worth 280 million. The power station will consist of two steam condensation turbines and generators supplied by Siemens, which will have a baseline capacity of 126.76 MW and peak output of 146.53 MW. Maaden points out that its fertilizer complex will be able to supply about 10 MW of electricity to the national grid. The desalination plant will have a capacity of 40,000 cu m/day and will include storage tanks for desalinated, treated and potable water. Construction work is due to begin in May and be completed in mid-2010.
