Contract Awarded to ABB for Upgrading the Power Plants Serving Oil and Gas Processing Facilities on Zirku Island

The ABB group has won an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract worth $175 million from Zakum Development Company (Zadco) for upgrading and expanding the power generation capacity serving the oil and gas processing facilities on Zirku island, with the aim of improving their energy efficiency and operational reliability. Zadco is in the process of stepping up the crude oil production capacity of the offshore Upper Zakum field to 750,000 b/d from 550,000 barrels/day at present. The field is the second largest in the Gulf and the fourth largest in the world in production capacity terms.
