The gas industry development strategy adopted by the Ministry of Petroleum and the intensification of gas exploration activities have resulted in a further increase in Egypt's proven natural gas reserves to 69.5 trillion cu ft,according to Oil Minister Sameh Fahmy The country's reserves were estimated at 67.5 trillion cu ft in May 2006,up from 67 trillion cu ft in 2004 and 36 trillion cu ft in 1999 (AOG,1 June,2006).Egypt intends to step up its gas exports from around 17 billion cu m in 2006 to 35 billion cu m/year in the coming years and add 30 trillion cu ft to its proven natural gas reserves by 2011.At the moment,Egypt exports gas both in the form of LNG,produced at plants in Idku and Damietta,and by pipeline to Jordan.
