Only three of the 18 companies that had expressed an interest in the four offshore blocks offered for exploration by Bahrain (AOG, 16 March, 2007) had actually submitted bids by the closing date of 19 September. The three bidders are Occidental Petroleum of the United States, Zarubezhneft of Russia and PTT Exploration and Production Public Company (PTTEP) of Thailand. "Three bids is just right for us because we have four blocks and some of them may be bidding for more than one block. We will not know until we open them tomorrow," said the Minister of Oil and Gas, Mr. Abdul Hussein Mirza, who is also Chairman of the National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA).
