The South Korean company LG Engineering & Construction Corp.has won an EPC (engineering,procurement and construction) contract for the new linear alkyl benzene (LAB) plant being developed by Qatar Petroleum (QP) at Messaid.The contract is worth QR 873.6 million (US240 million) and calls for the construction of a plant with a capacity of 110,000 tons/year of LAB and 88,000 tons/year of paraffin-n utilizing the UOP-UK process.It is to be located within the compound of the Messaid refinery operated by Qatar Refinery Company.The contract with LG is due to be finalized towards the end of January.
