Syria's agricultural expoprts left in shables

During the years from 2001 to 2009 Syria was able to have agricultural exports of about $1 billion annually. Exports of cotton grown in the irrigated fields near the Euphrates River were a steady export item. Exports of wheat and barley fluctuated depending on the way weather affected yields. Exports to Iraq of fruits and vegetables were flourishing. A major export to Iraq was poultry feed based on use of large imports of maize from United States and Ukraine. Exports of lentils and chickpeas to Iraqwere moving well. But iin 2014 most exports to Iraq were blocked. Imports of maize and soybeans for preparation of poultry feed declined to a low level.
