The meeting of the Board of Directors and General Assemnly of the Arab Iron and Steel Union held in Algeria in the period 8-10 May 2006 have stressed the importance of the achievements realized on the scale of the development of this industry in the Arab countries. The production figure achieved in 2005 amounting to 19 million tons of the finished steel products is a positive indicator of the extent of development of this industry in the Arab world compared to what it had been one decade ago. This has been said in the speech of the Algerian Minister of industry, Mr. Mahmoud Khathari in the opening of the meeting of the General Assembly which was held under the patronage of the President of the Algerian Republic, Mr.Abdul Aziz Bou Tafliqa.
