摘要

The oil sector, which was once one of the main sources of hard currency for the public exchequer, has become one of the heaviest "burdens" on the state's foreign exchange reserves since the 25 January 2011 revolution, according to the Finance Minister, Mr. Momtaz al-Said, as quoted by Al Ahmrn. In less than 15 months, he said, Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) had received funding of $6.5 billion from his ministry, not counting the guarantees of $835 million it had provided the company. According to some sources, the Oil Ministry needs $100 million a week to cover the domestic market's demand for subsidized petroleum products, in addition to the needs of power stations.
