Sonatrach Has Made Three Hydrocarbon Discoveries Since the Beginning of 2010

Despite the serious problems that have overtaken the national oil company, Sonatrach is continuing to operate and to announce some good news from time to time. It has thus reported that it has made three new hydrocarbon discoveries since the beginning of this year, the first of 2010, which has thus begun at a good pace even though any extrapolation is obviously not possible. All these discoveries were made by Sonatrach on tracts in which it has 100% interests, and two were made in the Berkine basin and one in the Oued Mya basin. Two of them were of oil and the third of natural gas and condensate. A total of 16 discoveries were reported last year, the same as in 2008 (while 20 were made in both 2006 and 2007). Most of the discoveries made in Algeria in recent years have been of gas.
