PSV gives 34DF engine first reference

A prospective addition to the StatoilHydro-deployed platform supply vessel fleet next yearwill provide the first marine application of a new dual-fuel engine derived from the Waertsilae 32-type medium-speed series. Three six-cylinder examples of the 34DF dual-fuel engine have been nominated for a newbuild of the Aker PSV 06 LNG CD design ordered by the DOF Group from STX Norway Offshore's Soviknes yard. The flexibility to operate on both LNG and diesel fuel will enable DOF to meet the environmental standards dictated by charterer StatoilHydro, and the Clean Design classification criteria incorporated in the ship's design reflects the'green'philosophy that has come to the fore. The project is another example of the way in which the exacting requirements of the Norwegian energy group continue to help drive and endorse technological developments and new solutions.
