The introduction of a renewable heat incentive (RHI) scheme in Ireland, similar to the UK’s, could boost biomass demand but must be implemented in a timely manner, Irish bioenergy association IrBEA told Argus. The Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources (DCENR) draft bioenergy plan, published in October last year, outlined the Irish government’s intentions to introduce an RHI scheme and was welcomed by the Irish biomass market. The plan “is a step in the right direction for biomass in Ireland”, IrBEA said.
