European Premium: Cold prompts activity

Prices for bagged and bulk pellets in the Italian premium market were stable in the week, but lower temperatures in Italy spurred buying activity. Bagged premium pellets were assessed with a midpoint value of ?187.5/t delivered northern Italy. Temperatures in Italy have zigzagged above and below the ten-year average over the past few weeks, creating intermittent bursts of demand for premium pellets. Temperatures are forecast to remain below the ten-year average next week, but prices are not expected to firm before Christmas unless a prolonged spell of low temperatures creates “some consistent demand”, market participants said.
