European security in the post-Cold War era: Whither Europe?

摘要

This dissertation is about European defense. It explores the link between the new security challenges in the post Cold-War era, and the onset of efforts to create an autonomous European defense capability. The goal here is to identify key factors driving the development of policies, institutions, and agencies that pertain to European defense. In the course of this research, the nature of these policies and institutions, as well as their consequences for international security will be explored. Most important, this research seeks to identify the factors that enable/hamper the developments of security/defense related institutions in the European Union.
