Different hormonal treatments could be effective tools to induce synchronous ovulation and out-of-season spawning of Eurasian perch (Kucharczyk, Kujawa, Murmurz, Skrzypczak & Wyszomirska 1996; Kouril, Linhart & Relot 1997; Kouril & Hamackova 1999). In the last 15–20 years, the application of different analogues of mammalian gonadotrop-releasing hormone (GnRH) has become widely used in fish propagation. However, most of the GnRH analogues do not comply with the demand for full transparency in the food chain. From these ovulation-inducing agents, Gonazon was the first officially approved reproductive peptide in the European Union (Haffray, Enright, Driancourt, Mikolajczyk & Rault 2005). Our study aimed to compare the efficiency of Gonazon – either alone, or in combination with a dopamine antagonist – and that of carp pituitary homogenate in the spawning induction of Eurasian perch.
