Amber is an 18 year old high school student with mild asthma, occasional marijuana and alcohol use, and one sexual partner. She has seen the same Adolescent Medicine trained pediatrician her whole life. In 2 months, Amber will move away from home to attend college and will likely need medical attention at some point during her college career. To whom should she turn? Does it make sense for Amber to find a new adult medical provider when she is unsure of her permanent future plans? Conversely, should she continue to follow with her pediatrician whom in the past has been successful at addressing her adolescent and young adult concerns?
