Continuing drought worries pineapple concentrate trade

THAILAND has the potential to produce 8% more pineapple for processing this year, according to newly-released figures. Drought, which has gripped the region in the past two months, has made packers far more cautious, to the extent that pineapple concentrate prices have inched up ahead of the summer crop. The Thai Food Processors' Association (TFPA) this week said that it expects 1.95 million tonnes of pineapple to be available in 2005, up from just over 1.80 million tonnes last year. Only 1.76 million tonnes were processed in 2003.
