The Canadian province of Alberta has set up an advisory council to unlock the region’s untapped mineral potential, anticipating steep growth in global demand as modern tech- nologies drive up usage of batteries, energy storage cells and electronic devices. In particular, the council highlighted the potential to produce lithium from formation waters in south-central and west-central Alberta, and also opportunities to extract vana- dium, rare earth elements and titanium from oil sands waste streams.
