Identified and Selected Modified Indigenous Child Rearing Practices Practised by Rural Women at Preconception Stage

Children constitute one of the most crucial resources of a nation. The early period of a child's life from conception to preschool is very crucial. Rural women are left with minimum time to take care of self and upbringing of children properly being busy from dawn to dusk and secondly because of ignorance of mothers about elementary knowledge of health, nutrition and other practices required for proper growth of children across various stages of their development i. e. from conception till the birthof a child. Hindu and Muslim community being the most prominent communities (82.35%) followed by Muslim (11.73%) were selected for study purpose. Secondly, because these communities differ significantly in socio-culturai scenario. Two hundred rural women, 100 each from Hindu and Muslim community, were selected for the identification of indigenous child rearing practices. Fifty experts from the area of child development were selected for the modification of indigenous child rearing practices. The identified and modified indigenous child rearing practices at preconception stage were : symptoms regarding confirmation of conception have no scientific relevance from expert point of view. Urine test is scientifically recommended practice for confirming pregnancy; combination of 'X' and 'Y' chromosomes determines the sex of baby.
