Sea your future

摘要

The marine world has always been pushed forwards by a number of drivers. The significance of each will vary depending on the popular agenda of the day, but can be summarised into two key areas: cost and efficiency; and safety and security. Everything else, such as carrying capacity, specialist handling, speed etc, is a subset of these two fields. I predict that during the next 25 years we will witness significant improvements in both sectors through the development of autonomous solutions. In this essay, I will explore this scenario in more detail and discuss how the marine world can benefit from future technology that we can foresee today. I will also consider how it will evolve in the years ahead and learn from sectors that are already seeking to exploit this technology.
