Dr.Harald Weber,project manager for technology and innovation,VDMA Plastics and Rubber Machinery hit the nail on the head in his introduction to the virtual presentation ceremony for the journey to Automation(J2A)Awards,saying:"Many people say the tire industry is conservative,but here are the counter examples."A lead-expert on the seven-strong expert judging panel,Dr Weber was highlighting how the J2A 2020 entries show an industry at the cutting-edge in the adoption of advanced IT-based and automation technologies across its manufacturing facilities,products and supply chains.The harsh fact that this is unknown to most people outside and,indeed,many inside the tire sector,is something the J2A Awards aims to address by shining a light on the excellent work going on around the digital transformation of this global industry.This is perhaps why so many companies,organisations and individuals took considerable time and effort to participate in the J2A Awards-even though this was a completely new event-concept for the sector.
