Kentucky Power pushes case to sell excess NAPP coal at Mitchell

Kentucky Power, hoping to bolster its case forauthority to sell up to 400,000 st of “excess” Northern Appalachiancoal earmarked for the 1,560-MW Mitchell generating station in WestVirginia this year, told Kentucky regulators that the power plant’sNAPP coal inventory was more than triple its full-burn target at theend of January.Both Kentucky Power and Wheeling Power, which co-own Mitchell,are subsidiaries of Columbus, Ohio-based American Electric Power.They both want to sell contracted coal they do not expect to need thisyear from Murray Energy’s West Virginia mines.
