Ineos to build butane barges to supply Cologne cracker

Ineos has signed a contract with transport and supply chain group Imperial Logistics (Bedfordview, South Africa) to design and build the "largest butane river barges ever used in Europe," Ineos says. The barges will link Ineos' butane tank that is being constructed at the Oiltanking Antwerp Gas Terminal in Antwerp, Belgium, to Ineos' steam cracker at Cologne, Germany, via the Rhine River. Ineos says that the barges will move about 3,000 metric tons of butane each, about three times as much as the current barge movements on the Rhine.
