Jonathan Owen looks at how WSPA is helping to rebuild the lives of working animals and their owners in Afghanistan, a country recovering from decades of conflict. After the war in Afghanistan, early in 2002, WSPA embarked upon a dramatic mercy missionfor the animal casualties of war in the country's capital Kabul, With this work successfully completed, WSPA turned its attention to another crisis facing Afghanistan's animals - the plight of the country's equines. It is hard to overestimate the practical importance that horses and donkeys have in a country where mechanised transport is scarce.
