SDI's Busse shares select details on proposed mill

Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI) could devote some 500,000 tons per year of capacity from a proposed new flat-rolled mini-mill to servicing the pipe and tube markets, the company's top executive said. Roughly 300,000 to 400,000 tons per year from the proposed facility could go to the Techs, the Fort Wayne, Ind.-based steelmaker's galvanizing operations near Pittsburgh, SDI chairman and chief executive officer Keith Busse told AMM, adding that another 500,000 tons per year might go to serving the pipe and tube markets, with value-added, cold-reduced products possibly representing the balance.
