Event related brain potentials were recorded in response to the faces with emotional (fear and happy) or neutral expressions from a bilateral amygdala damage patient (YG) and 12 control subjects. For control subjects, the emotional faces (both fear and happy) elicited larger negative components of about 250ms (N250) over midline sites (Fz and Pz) than did the neutral faces. For YG, the difference between emotional and neutral faces in this component was not clear. These findings suggest that the N250 reflects the amygdalar emotional processing of the facial expressions.
