Appalachian apprehensive over Century power subsidy

Appalachian Power Co. is concerned about a proposed power agreement for Century Aluminum Co.'s idled smelter in Ravenswood, W.Va., according to a response filed with the Public Service Commission (PSC) of West Virginia. "We're concerned that there's just no limit built into Century's proposal for how much the subsidy could be," an Appalachian Power spokeswoman told AMM. "The subsidy could get very substantial, depending on the price of aluminum."
