Tamil Nadu foundries apprehensive of new power consumption norms

The new power consumption norms relating to discharge of harmonics in Tamil Nadu has made the small and medium foundries of the state apprehensive of going out of business; if the norm is implemented, many small and medium foundries in the state would either have to change their equipment or shut down their plant. For even the medium-scale foundries, it would be very difficult and almost impossible to replace the old equipment with the new low-emission ones within the prescribed limit, as the investment for this would be nearly Rs 2 crore.
