American Libraries: How did you get to be editor of Booklist? Bill Ott: I always had in the back of my mind this sort of romantic notion about publishing--mostly acquired from novels like Youngblood Hawke--but I had no idea what publishing was. It wassomething that happened to people in New York, a place I'd never been, having grown up my entire life on the West Coast. But I thought gee, maybe if I can go to library school, somehow that would tie in with my English degree and I could eventually geta job in publishing.
