This study was conducted to assess the cumulative toxicity of the test substance, acetic acid bacteria (Gluconacetobacter hansenii), when administered once daily for 4 weeks to 6— week-old Sprague-Dawley (Crl: CD (SD)) rats by oral gavage method.The rats were distributed into two groups each consisting of10 male and10 female rats. Group1was the control group and received water only, whereas Group 2 received the test substance at a dose level of 2000 mg/kg/day.No animal deaths were reported during the observation period. No test substance-related toxic effects in clinical signs, body weight, food consumption, urinalysis, hematology, clinical chemistry, organ weights, necropsy, and histopathological findings were observed. The no-observed-adverse-effect level of acetic acid bacteria was concluded to be higher than 2000 mg/kg/day for both male and female rats under the conditions of this study.
