MPEG4 mobile information terminal

摘要

The next-generation multimedia communication standards are being formulated as MPEG4 (Moving Picture Experts Group 4) by the International Standardization Organization (ISO). These standards will allow communicated multimedia information,including speech, audio and video signals, to be compressed into low-bit-rate signals, and have error-resilient features.Toshiba is developing an MPEG4 codec LSI for application to the mobile environment, and has fabricated an experimental TV phone terminal using this LSI. This technology will be able to be applied to the next-generation mobile communication system(IMT-2000) based on the wideband code-division multiple access (W-CDMA) system.
