To the Editor: Infections are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in hemodialysis (HD) patients because they are immunodeficient and at high risk of bacterial infection. Levofloxacin, the levoro-tatory form of ofloxacin, is a frequently prescribed antibiotic, especially in outpatient clinics, because this drug can be administered both orally and intravenously. However, there is little information about its dialyzability, especially in intermittent HD patients. We report dialyzer clearance in vivo and the half-life of levofloxacin after oral dosing in maintenance HD patients.
