Development of mesa-type diode protected by high stable film

In accordance with recent development and dissemination of the home appliance apparatus and the office equipment, the switch mode power supply is made more compact in size, more efficient in operation and lower in price to expand its applications. In this respect, electronic components used therefor are required to have high quality and low prices. To meet such demand, we have commercialized a 600V FRD (fast recovery diode) as a secondary side rectifier diode of the switch mode power supply through the development work of diodes with new structure aiming at the innovation of the chip process. The FRD thus developed has the following features resulting from the element design employing the newly developed protection film process. (1) Application of the protection film during the wafer process contributes to the stabilization of the characteristics and the simplification of the assembly process. (2) High reliability equivalent to that of the planar type diode is obtained due to the adoption of highly reliable resin as protection film. (3) The diode can withstand higher breakdown voltage than the same class of the diode.
