Mentoring master's level students: Drawing upon the wisdom of Athena as Mentor in Homer's Odyssey

An examination of how the elements of Homer's Odyssey can be used as a metaphor for understanding the mentoring relationship between counselor educators and students-particularly master's level counselors-in-training-is the focus of this article. Athena's role as Mentor in Homer's Odyssey serves as a springboard to examine current literature on mentoring, especially as this literature may be used to understand the special needs of master's level students.
