The practice of nuclear medicine technology by qualified individuals is necessary to protect the public health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of the United States of America. In 2017-2018, the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technologist Section (SNMMI-TS) Scope of Practice Task Force wrote The Model Practice Act for Nuclear Medicine Technology (Act) to use as a guide for states to properly regulate nuclear medicine technologists (NMTs). The template provides the legislative language that would ensure that NMTs are properly regulated without limiting their scope of practice. It also creates a standard to ensure that NMTs can uniformly practice across all states.
