Striped catfish, Pangasianodon hypophthalmus has emerged as a new candidate species with possibility of vertical and horizontal expansion of aquaculture sector with world-wide market. In aquaculture, feed cost is considered as major investment and predominantly affects the margin of profit Four iso -protein ous (32% crude protein) experimental diets composed of poultry waste (Dl), fish meal (D2), fish silage (D3) and soybean meal (D4) as principal protein source, respectively were used to evaluate the effect on water quality parameters, survival, growth rate, fish physiology and final carcass composition of P. hypophthalmus. Experimental diets were also tested to find out the efficacy of poultry waste, fish silage and soybean meal to replace the fish meal. Experiment was conducted in triplicate with four treatments i.e.T1, T2, T3 and T4 providing the diet Dl, 02, D3 and D4, respectively in indoor glass aquaria maintaining stocking density of 8 nos. of P. hypophthalmus fingerling ( 9.80±O.O8 cm and11.0*0.06 g) in each aquaria for a duration of 120 days. Formulated diets were provided @ 3% of BW twice daily. There were no significant differences observed in water quality parameters among treatments. Maximum weight gain (g) was recorded in T4 followed by in T2, T3 and Tl, respectively indicating diet D4 prepared with soybean meal as major protein source gained highest weight in P. hypophthalmus (11.69%, 18.55% and 32.27% more than that of diet prepared with fish meal, fish silage and chicken waste, respectively). Best FCR was calculated in T4 (1.525). Specific growth rate also observed highest in T4 (0.367) followed by T2 (0.327), T3 (0305) and Tl (0.266). Protein efficiency ratio (PER) and feed efficiency ratio PR) also followed the similar trend. Final 'b' varied 1.690 to 2.746 indicating negative alometric growth, indicating species became slender with increase in length. The values of condition factor 'K' recorded 1.020,1.056,1.039 and 1.141 in Tl, T2, T3 and T4, respectively indicating well-being offish fed with experimental diets. The study concludes that diet containing soybean meal as major protein source could be used to replace the fish meal with 11.69% more weight gain in P. hypophthalmus fingerling without change in survival rate, physiology and water quality.
