These agreements can protect the employer and restrict the ability of employees to work for another lab. This article explores the two most common types of employment agreements. Non-compete Agreement: Sometimes called a covenant not to compete, a non-compete agreement is a contract that some employers ask new employees to sign, in which the employee agrees not to start a competing business or go to work for a competitor for a stated period after the employment relationship ends. These contracts limit the competition an employer will face from those who have intimate knowledge of how its business works, and are therefore in a great position to woo away customers and other employees.
