To establish a simple and highly effective biological quantification assay for chloramphenicol residues in food of animal origin, a sensitive microorganism was selected and its culture conditions in 96-well plate were optimized. Fresh bacterium suspension (OD_(450) about 0.3) was cultured for 3 h, a regular linear correlation was confirmed between the growth inhibition of OD_(450) value and chloramphenicol's concentration (R~2 = 0.9779). Then a formula, C = 4.88*2^[47.621(ΔA0-ΔA)-7.7087], was established for chloramphenicol quantification. Repetitive detection of pork, milk and eggs showed that the detection limit of this chloramphenicol quantification method for is 0.033 ng/mL, the average recovery ratios varied from 84.15% to 91.02%, and the RSD values range from 1.22% to 6.37%.
