EUROPE: Economic Growth and Reinforced Policies Propelled the European HP Market

The European heat pump market reached another annual sales record 2017. More than 1 million heat pumps (1,096,044) were sold in Europe last year. The strong economy in Europe along with strengthened policies are slowly but steadily changing the course of the colossal heating sector as it gradually shifts to renewable energy. The heat pump market growth is in many countries still found in new construction where strict building regulations, enforced by the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), have made heat pumps a competitive, if not the leading solution. Heat pumps in the retrofit sector are in most countries still mainly driven by subsidies.
