On April 11, a press conference on new YORK brand variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems was held in Beijing during the China Refrigeration expo (CRH 2018). JARN seized the opportunity to interview Hank Marcy, vice president of Global Product Development at Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning, to hear about brand and product strategy. JARN (J): Why did Qingdao Hisense Hitachi take over sales of VRFs and unitary units under Johnson Control's YORK brand in China? Hank Marcy (M): The Qingdao Hisense Hitachi, a joint venture (JV) between Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning and Hisense, established the Qingdao Johnson Controls Air-Conditioning company to lead the YORK brand product management, manufacturing, and sales for direct expansion products in China. With Qingdao Hisense-Hitachi and Qingdao Johnson Controls Air Conditioning being in charge of the YORK brand products in China, the interests of Johnson Controls (JCI) and Hisense are all aligned so that we can focus on winning in the market. We think that one of the unique things we have is our multi-brand strategy in China, which gives us the power to address customer needs in unique ways.
