The Handysize bulk carrier fleet has long been termed an aging one. With over 54.3% of the total capacity now over 20 years old, the 182% increase in Handysize scrapping witnessed in 2009 was arguably well overdue. However, it took one of the greatest shipping market crashes in history to prompt this surge in demolition, a phenomena we now look upon on with the luxury of hindsight.
