US Patent No. 9,901,525 B2; Amorepacific Corporation, Seoul, has patented a method for whitening the skin. It comprises a step for applying to the skin a cosmetic composition containing, as a sole skin whitening effective ingredient, 3(3, 5a-dihydroxy-6|3-methoxy-(22E, 24R)-ergosta-7, 22-diene or 3p,5a,9a-trihydroxy-(22E, 24R)-ergosta-7, 22-di-ene-6-one, and a cosmetically acceptable medium or base. The concentration of the skin whitening effective ingredient is greater than 1pm based on the total weight of the cosmetic composition.
