How can local authority foresters benefit from Tree Cities of the World?

Five English local authorities — Birmingham, Bradford and the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Camden and Ealing — have been named as the UK's first Tree Cities of the World, a global programme to demonstrate and celebrate best practice in urban forestry.Set up only in 2019, Tree Cities of the World is a programme of the Food & Agriculture Organization of the UN and the US-based Arbor Day Foundation. Since 1976, the latter's Tree City USA scheme has accredited more than 3,400 urban authorities, while itsTree Campus USA programme has nearly 400 colleges and universities.In partnership with individual local authorities, environmental charity Trees for Cities is now leading the initiative in the UK, where it has gained high-level political support in those so far successful. Ealing Council leader Julian Bell says: "It istestament to our ongoing commitment to our borough's trees, a commitment we intend to keep over the coming years to safeguard this vital asset."
