Two Sets of Fighting Instructions,1914

The two sets of tactical instructions presented here are closely related not only in time, but in purpose as well, and both now reside together in the Sturdee Papers at the Churchill Archives Centre, Cambridge.1 Both were written in the aftermath of Rear-Admiral Sir Christopher Cradock's defeat at the battle of Coronel on 1 November 1914 by officers charged with the destruction of the German squadron responsible for the disaster.
